BioZabuza is a rogue ninja originating from the Hidden Mist Village. When he was still living in the village, he was a member of the Hidden Mist’s ANBU. His nickname is “the Demon of the Hidden Mist,” because in his childhood, he had killed over 100 of the Ninja Academy graduates attending their final exam. In this exam, each student was pitted against the other in a battle to the death to prove his or her strength, but Zabuza’s relentless massacre ended this tradition immediately. Sometime after that incident, while Zabuza was an ANBU squad captive, he attempted to kill the Mizukage of the village, but when that failed, he defected from the Hidden Mist Village. Just before he left, he ran across a young orphaned child that had a special bloodline limit ability to wield the power of ice. From that day forward, Zabuza took Haku under his wing and trained him to fight as his weapon and serve as his tool.
Zabuza is the first big villain in the Naruto series when Team 7 finally gets a real mission that doesn’t involve them chasing down cats. While Team 7 is fighting both him and his personally-trained weapon, Haku dies protecting Zabuza from one of Kakashi’s piercing attacks. Shortly before Zabuza himself dies, he finally realizes that Haku actually meant something to him, even though he had treated the boy as nothing more than an object throughout all the years they had been together. As he lies down beside him, Zabuza apologies to Haku and with his last breath, expresses earnest gratitude for his faithful service. Out of respect for them, Team 7 buries the two next to each other.
Years later during the time-skip, Sasuke and his crew stopped by Zabuza’s gravesite, where Suigetsu shows disrespect for the dead by stealing Zabuza’s sword.
Like most macho men, Zabuza doesn’t like to show emotions. In fact, he believes that emotions are useless, especially for shinobi. By default, he is cold, callous, and selfish, but he is capable of being human and having feelings, like when faced with the notion of losing someone important to him. Haku is his closest companion, and if Zabuza ever realizes what he’s been doing wrong all this time, then he can stop taking Haku for granted and start treating him like a person.
